It sometimes good to have a talking character in your website. Your visitors can see the character doing an introduction of your website while you browse the website. By adding this talking character, you can increase your website sales. One website that I know selling this talking character is sitepal.com.
I tried created my own free talking character. I download two application: “text to voice” application, and “animated flash talking character“ . I first create the voice, using an application. You might prefer record your own voice. Then I will create the talking flash character using the second application. Not to bad.
