Float ad wordpress plugin

This plugin is a floating ad plugin. You can place your ad at the top of your blog and it will stay there although you scroll the page. You can comment about the plugin here. See the demo here. Download the plugin here.

To install the plugin:

  1. Upload the plugin files to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  3. Place <?php $floatad = new floatad(); $floatad->displayad(); ?> right after the <BODY> tag on your theme file. You could probably find it at header.php.

To customise the look of the float ad, you can do so from your WordPress Admin Panel under the Settings Tab. To do even more customisation, you can do so from the CSS file inside the CSS Folder.

I would say, stay away from this type of ads if you want to keep your visitors!

  • Apr 15, 2009 by admin

Hi, Why is it? Is it annoying?

  • May 5, 2009 by Ian

I think this great, but I would never use bright colours like pink, and not across the width of the screen, much better is a box about about 150px x 200px in a column of the page, is that possible? Can there be more than one?

  • May 6, 2009 by admin

Hi Ian, No - that's just the sample :) You can actually customise the text and background color as you wish from WP Admin panel under Settings tab. For box size, you can customise it from the css file inside the css folder. About multiple floatad installation, it's possible but not directly enabled from the plugin. You can do so manually by renaming the plugin into something else and install the plugin. Thanks :)

I have to say that when I’m on a site that has an ad like this it does annoy me. Doesn’t make me leave though so I guess it can work.

I am quite new to blogging thing, especially installing plugins. But you made it so easy for me to install this wonderful plugin and it started working like a charm right from the word Go! All this time I was doing with the default setup of the wordpress. But when I got to know about the magic these plugins can spell on the blog, I have completely resorted myself to using every plugin that can do something good to my blog. And this one would easily make its way on top of the list. Everyone needs this plugin and it’s highly recommended by me. Thanks a ton for this plugin!

I think this is a great plugin to have. I have a number of different blogs and I know that it’s not something that I’ll use on all of them but I do have a couple where it will be a great addition. Thanks for making this available for use. It’s a great plugin!

Will the changes to the header.php file be lost once we upgrade WordPress?

Also, I went to the demo site and couldn’t see the floating ad? Have you stopped using it? Where can I see a demo please?

Floating ads can be annoying insomuch as they may obscure what I want to look right at. That said, occasionally, I admit I’ve clicked on the odd one, and they’re way less annoying than popups.

  • Mar 11, 2010 by Office Cleaning Services London

This is an informative post and the guide for placing the ad in a blog using the plugin is clear and easy for me to understand. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • Apr 4, 2010 by wordpress themes

It’s a great plugin, I use it only on sub pages because it can scare people away if it was on the home page, I also re-cubstructed the plugin for a left side banner scrolling ad. great stuff!

Hey this is great, thanks for the tip! I always see those kind of ads popping up in marketing blogs. They always like to stick to the top of your screen. I always wanted to make one myself and thanks to you, I know how!

  • Jul 6, 2010 by Maxtol

Same problem as a lot of people with this plugin:
Fatal error: Class ‘floatad’ not found in ../../wp-content/themes/default/header.php

There is any way to solve this?

    thanks!

  • Jul 9, 2010 by Thierry from motor racing books

Its very beautiful. I dont think that its annoying since this also works as your logo and part of the site. But yes, as turisina mentioned, you can just place it at the bottom of the page so it will be less annoying for others who hate ads.

  • Jul 21, 2010 by Joel from Growth hormone

Hi Admin, I am wondering if you lately made any change in this plugin? I want to use it for one of my new site but it is WP-3.0. So i am afraid if it will compatible with WordPress 3.0 or not?

  • Jul 23, 2010 by Justin from YBT Review

As much as some people hate them, floating ads convert very well and will almost always get a look by visitors.

  • Aug 6, 2010 by Deb Wigley

FYI, the code to add should be:

    displayad(); ?>

with “ing” after the float… hope this helps!! :)

  • Aug 11, 2010 by morgan from IT Support London

I would love to have these. I just got WordPress and I’m a bit new to it but I’ve read so much about it and bookmarked various pages with WP plugins. I would love to have some ads going on my site to bring in a little bit of extra revenue and also to give some related businesses a bit of exposure, which will hopefully help me to build up some contacts.

  • Aug 19, 2010 by Julie from Web Design

Thanks for the codes dude! This is really very helpful.
