Tips for web design

Design is a crucial for you website. You do not want your visitor leave your website, before your goals for them are achieved. You should pay extra attention for detail to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are tips for your web design:

  1. Do not put lots of banner. Lots of people have trained themselves to ignore banner. They might think your website as “cheap” if you put lots of banner.
  2. Have a easy to use navigation. Use navigation where beginner will know how to use it. Do not use complicated Flash menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus.
  3. Have a maximum color of three. Do not puts a lot of color on your website. Unless you are in an art business, and you want to give your website “colorfull” look.
  4. Use easy to read font. I like verdana for my website.
  5. Layout must be consistent throughout the site. You do not want your visitor to learn your layout everytime they change page.

Probably the most important thing, if you want any kind of web design, is to set a budget.

How much work, X, is the designer expected to do for Y amount of money, in Z amount of time. Mission creep – fear it!

Also, what is the site supposed to _do_ for you. Many designers can create an impressive-looking site; then what?

Hi - I couldn't agree more - Great looking and flashy design is wonderful, but getting the site to do as intended is what most important.

great post. i agree with the previous comment. you need to budget your money AND your time for the project you are working on. There is always a chance that there will be snags in the progress of any given project. If you plan well enough and do research, you stand to avoid most of those hang-ups

I think when it comes to design you should always be thinking about how functional the design will be and if things will be harder/easier on your users. I think this is an important thing to consider when implementing any new design aspect to your site.
