I think a recent trend is that Web designers also do SEO. In my case, SEO is my first skill, Web design is my second skill. I have trained Web designers that work with me to follow my standards. I primary goal is ROI for my client. SEO gives me that.

Great post. I agree, to have SEO implemented, early in development is a good thing. If you take the time, the results are worth it.

Agreed – Flash is NOT great at all. IMO, flash should be used if it’s necessary to present something. To spice sites with Flash will only hurt on-site SEO (to some people, loading flash will turn them away from your site!)

That in itself is a good argument for not doing the SEO and website design separately. The designer needs to know which practices are counter-productive for SEO. Some people today think that a site that is mostly FLASH oriented is great. Not realizing that the search engines get nothing usable from Flash.

It’s better for the designer to implement SEO-friendly practices, such as no flash or frames, less graphics more texts, etc. However to get the best of both world, I agree that specialists do their job better…

A company who deals in both web design and seo is the best to use. Sometimes though you have to think of them as separate entities. You can get your site designed by one company, and do the SEO with the other. Of course it’s important the designers don’t make it difficult to SEO but using flash or frames.

I think most web designer’s do not incorporate SEO techniques that will help your site rank better in Google. I think it is best to consult with both to make sure your site is as optimized as possible.

I think it is important to find a company that can design your site to fit in with SEO. Many web designers use methods that work for them but are bad for SEO. If you can combine the two with an effective website you will be a step ahead of the competition.
