Thank you for reminding people that domain names containing hyphens can be a double-edged sword. When I come across one, I immediately think the site is optimized only to take my money, even if this is not the case.

Nice, one thing to note is that, in the past, people used to advocate using symbols like “-” and “_” in a url. Some people argued that these symbols made your domain name more keyword rich and helped with SEO.

Using symbols in your URL will make the URL harder to type on a mobile decive (even an Iphone) the symbols are not accessible easily on the keyboard. They are, for the moment, best avoided.

another thing about domain names that if you can get the exact phrase in the domain on a .com(which is rare), then you will have a huge advantage over other sites. My jogging tips site shot to the number one position for about a week in google, then, unfortunitly got sent to the sandbox, but when it comes back, it will be number one again and I can start making money again

Domain name is very crucial. Completely agree with everything mentioned above. It helps immensely when Google and the search engines rank your site and gives browsers an insight into what your website is, or should be, about. It is something many people don’t really think too much about when they go to start a new site.
